How Much Does Epoxy Flooring Cost in Sugar Land, TX? (2026 Guide)

Epoxy flooring cost in Sugar Land has to be read from national surveys: none of the price surveys in our files gives a figure for this city, its county or the wider Houston area. The table below keeps each survey's range with its own date, from the price of a square foot to one-, two- and three-car garages and the other floor systems we install. A real quote moves with the slab itself, meaning its area, its moisture reading, the cracks and old coatings to deal with, and the system its data sheet supports. Further down, the arithmetic multiplies survey rates by common floor areas, and the garage floor epoxy page explains the layers a garage price pays for.

Before we price a floor, we come out, measure it and test the slab; the written quote that follows is free.

What Changes the Price?

Floor size: Angi's August 2026 page puts it simply: "Epoxy flooring costs are directly affected by the size of the space since you'll need more material to cover larger square footage." Size cuts the other way on small jobs. Bob Vila's April 2024 garage floor page notes that "some contractors require a $500 to $1,000 minimum charge," so per-square-foot arithmetic can understate the price of a single small room.

Resin and system: Angi names "resin type and floor size" as the main drivers. Its August 2026 material prices go from $30-$50 a gallon for water-based resin to $45-$150 for solid resin. Polyaspartic sits a step above epoxy on HomeGuide's November 2024 page ($5-$12 against $4-$10 a square foot), and that page prices flakes, custom colors or patterns at an extra $0.50-$2.00 per square foot.

Slab repairs: Repairs come before primer and are priced apart from the coating. HomeAdvisor's June 2026 figure for patching cracks or chips in older floors is $25-$250 of labor; Fixr's January 2025 table gives $150-$1,000 to fix a cracked garage floor; and where damage is widespread, HomeGuide's February 2026 resurfacing price is $3-$7 a square foot.

Moisture and primer: HomeGuide's November 2024 concrete coating page prices moisture testing at about $50-$300, and Fixr's January 2025 page has an added primer at $2-$4 a square foot installed. Whether a Fort Bend slab needs a moisture-mitigating primer is decided by that test, especially after a flood like Harvey's, and the primer then shows up as a separate line on our written quote.

Labor share: Labor is a large share of any quote. "Labor often makes up about 50% to 70% of the total project cost," says HomeGuide's December 2024 garage coating page, while Angi's August 2026 page puts it at 33%-60%. The O*NET rows for ZIP 77478 are something else, wages paid to workers, such as the $22.18 median hourly wage for construction painters in the Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands area.

Neither the table nor the arithmetic prices your floor. A Sugar Land quote has to account for what no national survey sees: a slab from around 1994, which the Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 reports as Sugar Land's median year built; Lake Charles clay, which the USDA NRCS says cracks when dry; humid Gulf air that narrows the hours when coats can go down; and a garage that may have taken on water. Our crews measure and test on site first, and the free quote that follows, in writing, names the products, steps, dates and price. Why every price here is national, not a Sugar Land figure

Six publishers supply the dollar prices on this page: Bob Vila, Fixr, HomeGuide, Angi, HomeAdvisor and This Old House. All six publish national figures, and Angi and HomeAdvisor both say they surveyed thousands of real customers to get theirs. Angi's national epoxy page has no cost-by-city table at all, and not one survey page in our files lists Sugar Land, its county or the Houston metro, which is why each row is marked national. The surveys also disagree, so they appear side by side with dates rather than as an average: HomeGuide's two-car row runs $1,600 to $5,800, while Fixr's January 2025 page prices a two-car garage of about 575 square feet at $5,750 to $8,625.

Two federal series describe Houston-area prices and pay without pricing a floor. For 2023, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis sets the all-items regional price parity of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metro at 100.2, a hair over the national 100.0; BEA's regional price parities page explains the figure as a price level, and BEA says the all-items number takes in all consumption goods and services, housing rents included. O*NET's local wage page for construction painters, drawn from "Bureau of Labor Statistics 2025 wage data" for ZIP 77478, lists wages paid to workers: a Houston-area median of $22.18 an hour, below the national $23.75. Cement masons ($22.40 against $27.41) and floor layers ($20.68 against $27.15) show the same gap. Neither series converts into a Sugar Land price per square foot.

Area arithmetic: from a 12x12 room to 1,000 square feet

No survey in our files prints an installed epoxy total for a 12x12 room. Near 1,000 square feet, Fixr's January 2025 page does print one: $10,000 to $15,000 for a thick epoxy coat on the average basement, which it puts at about that size. Every other total in this section is multiplication. Using HomeGuide's February 2026 national range, where each installed square foot costs $4 to $10, 144 square feet (a 12x12 room) multiplies to $576-$1,440; 400 square feet, the size of a 20x20 two-car garage, to $1,600-$4,000; 500 square feet to $2,000-$5,000; and 1,000 square feet to $4,000-$10,000. With This Old House's March 2026 installed range instead, $3 to $12 covering both materials and labor, the 1,000-square-foot floor multiplies to $3,000-$12,000.

Polyaspartic at HomeGuide's November 2024 rate of $5 to $12 per square foot comes to $5,000 to $12,000 for 1,000 square feet. A small floor can cost more than the arithmetic shows, because a minimum charge of $500 to $1,000 applies at some contractors, according to Bob Vila's April 2024 page. The garage rows matter for a local reason: the Census Bureau's ACS 2020-2024 counts 19,171 Sugar Land households with two vehicles and 9,751 with three or more, out of 38,485 occupied units. For how polyaspartic and epoxy differ beyond price, in cure time, sun exposure and humidity limits, see the polyaspartic floor coating page.

How to read a floor quote under Texas sales tax rules

The kind of property decides the Texas tax on a repair or remodel, so the tax line deserves a first look. Texas Comptroller publication 94-116, titled "Real Property Repair and Remodeling," leaves floor coatings unnamed and starts from homes: "Labor to repair, remodel, or restore residential real property is not taxable." On a lump-sum residential job the contractor carries the tax on materials at purchase and bills the owner no tax; on a separated contract, the owner pays tax on the materials charge only. Nonresidential work differs, since "the total amount charged for remodeling, repairing, or restoring nonresidential real property is taxable," with hospitals, office buildings, warehouses, retail shops and restaurants among the publication's examples. The state rate is 6.25 percent, local bodies may add up to 2 percent for an 8.25 percent ceiling, and local tax follows the job site.

Our quotes are laid out so those categories can be checked against them. Products appear by name beside their data sheets, then the sequence of work, the dates and the total, with a separate list of what the price excludes. A moisture-mitigating primer, if the slab's test calls for one, carries its own price line, which makes it easy to see what the moisture reading added. The quote names the tax treatment we expect to apply; for a binding answer, the Comptroller or a tax adviser decides. Two lines from the Attorney General of Texas, in its advice on avoiding home improvement scams, are worth applying to any quote you compare: "Insist on a written contract that specifically states what the contractor will do," and "you should not pay in full until the work is complete."

Epoxy Flooring Pricing Questions

How much does it cost to epoxy 1000 square feet of flooring?

Multiplying the HomeGuide and This Old House rates by 1,000 square feet gives $3,000 to $12,000, while Fixr's January 2025 survey, which prints a total close to that area, puts thick-coat epoxy for a basement of roughly that size at $10,000 to $15,000. HomeGuide's installed range from February 2026, $4 to $10 a square foot, gives $4,000 to $10,000 for that area; This Old House's March 2026 rate of $3 to $12 gives $3,000 to $12,000; HomeGuide's polyaspartic rate, $5 to $12 in November 2024, gives $5,000 to $12,000. None of these is a Sugar Land price, and a moisture-mitigating primer, crack repair or resurfacing would be added on top.

What is the average cost to epoxy a 2-car garage floor?

Nationally, HomeGuide's February 2026 survey prices the job at $1,600 to $5,800, sizing a two-car garage at 400 to 576 square feet. Both Angi's August 2026 page and HomeAdvisor's from June 2026 print $1,500 to $6,000, taking 500 square feet as their two-car size, and HomeGuide's November 2024 polyaspartic page puts the same garage in that coating at $2,000 to $6,900. No survey prices a Sugar Land garage; the moisture test, the crack repairs and the system chosen set the figure on your written quote.

How much does a 20x20 epoxy floor cost?

A 20x20 floor covers 400 square feet, a size HomeGuide's December 2024 garage coating page prints as its smaller two-car garage, at $1,600 to $4,800 for an average coating. Run HomeGuide's newer February 2026 epoxy range across the same 400 square feet and the arithmetic lands between $1,600 and $4,000. Both figures are national, not Sugar Land prices, and cracks or a high moisture reading in your slab would add repair or primer lines.

Is polyaspartic more expensive than epoxy?

On the national surveys, somewhat more. HomeGuide's November 2024 comparison table has polyaspartic at $5-$12 a square foot and epoxy at $4-$10, with a two-car polyaspartic garage at $2,000 to $6,900. Concrete Decor's 2009 article says polyaspartic material "can be 20 to 30 percent higher per gallon than epoxies." The same HomeGuide table gives polyaspartic a full cure of 1 to 2 days against up to a week for epoxy; our polyaspartic floor coating page compares them for a Sugar Land garage.

Does a Sugar Land garage cost more than the national average?

No survey in our files measures that, so we cannot say whether it does. The closest federal yardstick is BEA's regional price parity for the Houston metro, 100.2 in 2023 against 100.0 nationally, and it covers every kind of consumer good and service, rents included, rather than floor work. O*NET's Houston-area rows for construction painters, cement masons and floor layers sit below the national medians, yet they record what workers are paid, which is a different number from what an owner is charged.

Is a garage floor coating taxable in Texas?

It depends on the property. The Texas Comptroller's publication 94-116 does not name floor coatings, but it draws this line: "Labor to repair, remodel, or restore residential real property is not taxable," while "the total amount charged for remodeling, repairing, or restoring nonresidential real property is taxable." The state rate is 6.25 percent, plus any local tax. For a home, tax on materials turns on the contract form, lump-sum or separated. Our quote names the treatment we expect; a ruling belongs to the Comptroller or a tax adviser.
